Director Nominee
Tracy Nelson
Cosmos II Bottle Depot
(Red Deer)
Bio:
My name is Tracy Nelson and I am the Manager of Cosmos 2 in Red Deer. I’ve been in that position for 3 yrs and have been with Cosmos for 6. I started working in this industry in 2001 at Callingwood Bottle depot, Beverly Bottle Depot and then West Edmonton (Centennial) Bottle depot, all 3 located in Edmonton.
When I started in this industry I had no intention of making a career of it, it was going to be temporary until I found “something better”. I quickly learned that I enjoyed not only the work but the impact we have on people from all walks of life as well as the environment. My life took a turn in 2014 and from then until 2018 I tried working in other industries but found myself yearning to be back in a depot, that’s when I found my way to Cosmos.
Cosmos Group of companies is not just a bottle depot, it consists of Disability services and 3 bottle depots, 2 in Red Deer and 1 in Blackfalds. It is always a pleasure to go into the office and see the smiling faces of the individuals that our depots help support, they are an important part of why Cosmos does what we do. We are also proud supporters of our local non-profits in the form of bottle drives and our in depot charity bins.
While being the manager I still take an active roll within my depot from counting a customers order, counting bottle drives, swamping with our drivers, tagging and shipping, cleaning, collaborating with the managers of our 2 other depots, and even doing the maintenance on our automation. I am also an active member on the Cosmos health and safety committee.
I would like to be an integral part of making a great recycling system even better for our communities, front line workers and our children who will follow our lead into the future.
