In Alberta, Bottle Depots are a regulated business under the oversight of the Beverage Container Management Board (BCMB). The BCMB issues permits and sets out expectations for Depot Owners as well as determines if a Depot is allowed to exist in a specific location. There are also specific costs associated with applying for a permit.
For applications for new Depot locations in Alberta, the BCMB only will receive these during a “Request for Applications” (RFA). The issuing of permits is exclusively based on the quality of the application submitted during the RFA.
