Bio:

I am with Blue Heron Bottle Depot situated in our lovely little town of Athabasca. I have been involved with our rural depot operations since November 2008 and as it’s manager since February 2013. I have been with the industry about 16 years for the most part working front line.

Our Depot had been recognized as one of the few Training Depots in 2014 and recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, one most recently. In 2018, I had the privileged to be a part of the Container Code Task Force with the BCMB, with two other esteemed Depots. I am currently one of the Regional Advisory Council (RAC) Representative with the ABDA for both North and Central West Region.

Our Depot have been actively involved in the community by facilitating donations for the Alberta Cans for Kids program for both Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and Ronald McDonald House of Charities and some other local not-for-profit. We are one of the few that spearheaded, advocated and recognized that being engage with our communities, add value to our industries’ social benefits.

Before the pandemic, over 50% of our staff are people with different abilities or has a barrier to employment, while still operating and adhering to our industry standards and mandates, our job is quite unique and challenging but doable, also is rewarding.

I have been with the ABDA Board for the past two years, serving my first term as a director. I also served as a member of the Governance and Compensation Committee working with other respected directors. By working together, with a united voice, with our best foot forward, we’ll make sure that our concerns and successes are heard, championing our tremendous triple bottom line: our economic, environmental and social benefits with Depots in 160 communities across the province.
