Niton Bottle Depot (Niton Junction) - March 2017
Niton Bottle Depot is the latest Depot to be recognized for their outstanding effort through the Applaud a Depot program. Michelle, a regular customer at the Niton Bottle Depot, was drawn from all Applauds in the province to win this draw. She wrote a wonderful comment regarding how she “can come in with a truck load of unsorted bottles and they have a smile on their face saying no problem, we got this…Love this place!”
The Alberta Bottle Depot Association presented Depot operator Thomas Bauman with a banner containing Michelle’s Applaud to hang proudly at his Depot. Michelle and guests enjoyed lunch with Thomas and ABDA staff.
Also present was Heather Sobey on behalf of the Honourable Oneil Carlier, MLA for Whitecourt-Ste. Anne, who presented Thomas with a congratulatory scroll for his contribution to the community. A certificate of recognition from Gerald Soroka, the mayor of Yellowhead County, was also presented.
Thomas is well-known in the area for hosting a free Haunted House during the Halloween season. He has been running the event for 12 years now and draws people from as far away as Edson, Edmonton and Whitecourt. Niton Bottle Depot also commits to donating a portion of their profits to groups such as the Legion and STARS. With a population of just 38 people in Niton Junction, it’s safe to say that Thomas’s contributions to the community go above and beyond the call of duty.
Congratulations to Thomas and the Niton Bottle Depot!
